HMS 1, HMS 2 and steel melting scrap
Heavy melting scrap (HMS) is the main steel melting scrap traded in India and internationally. HMS 1 is heavy steel, generally 6.35 mm (¼ inch) and thicker, free of galvanised and blackened material. HMS 2 includes lighter steel and some coated material. Sold together as HMS 1&2 (80:20), it is the standard blend for electric arc and induction furnaces.
- Sellers – factories, contractors and dismantlers – reach HMS 1 and HMS 2 scrap buyers, MS scrap buyers and cast iron scrap buyers across India through one listing.
- Buyers – mills and foundries – find HMS scrap suppliers for bulk ferrous scrap, domestic or imported, with grade, size and contamination agreed in writing.
Cast iron (machine beds, castings, pipes) is sold separately to foundries and should never be mixed into MS or HMS lots.
For sellers: factories, contractors, dismantlers
Volume makes small differences matter: ₹2 per kg on 50 tonnes is ₹1 lakh. We separate cast iron from MS, remove non-ferrous attachments, cut oversize pieces with our own gas-cutting crew and weigh every truck at a government-certified weighbridge. In Ramnagar, our head office is directly opposite Swastik Dharm Kata.
For buyers: mills and foundries
Post your specification – thickness distribution, size limits, coating and contamination limits, monthly tonnage and delivery location. We supply from verified domestic sellers and, where landed costs make sense, imported HMS and shredded scrap through the trade desk. Every lot is photographed at loading, and dispatch and receipt weights are reconciled against an agreed tolerance.
What drives ferrous prices
Domestic steel and billet prices, sponge iron and pig iron alternatives, landed import scrap prices, freight to the furnace and the construction season. Heavy, clean, furnace-ready material always earns the top of the range.
Plant dismantling
When a shed or plant is dismantled, the ferrous scrap usually covers the dismantling cost. We quote dismantling and scrap together, with a written safety plan, so owners can compare net outcomes.

Frequently asked questions
Who are the bulk iron and steel scrap suppliers for mills?
Mills buy from factories, demolition contractors, aggregators and importers. Kabadi24 supplies graded MS, HMS and cast iron from verified sellers across India and imported HMS through its trade desk.
What is HMS 1&2 80:20?
A blend of 80% HMS 1 (heavy steel, generally 6.35 mm and thicker) and 20% HMS 2 (lighter and coated steel), widely used in international scrap trade.
Why is cast iron priced separately from MS?
Cast iron has higher carbon content and mostly goes to foundries, while MS goes to steel mills, so demand and pricing differ.
How is ferrous scrap weighed?
Truckloads are weighed empty and loaded at a government-certified weighbridge, and both slips are shared with seller and buyer.
Who buys HMS 1 and HMS 2 scrap in India?
Induction furnaces, electric arc furnace mills and re-rollers are the main HMS 1 and HMS 2 scrap buyers. On Kabadi24, sellers list HMS, MS and cast iron lots and receive offers from verified mills and traders; mills post monthly steel melting scrap requirements.
