Copper grades we trade

Grade ISRI code Typical industrial source
Bare bright wire Barley Stripped power cable cores, clean bus wire
No. 1 wire and solids Berry / Candy Bus bars, earthing strip, clean clippings, tube
Armature / winding – Motor and transformer windings (enamelled)
No. 2 wire and solids Birch / Cliff Oxidised, coated or soldered copper
Insulated cable Recovery-based Power, control and building wire

The difference between the top and bottom grade can exceed ₹100 per kg, so grading is where most of the money is won or lost.

Copper scrap trading on Kabadi24

Copper scrap trading works in both directions here. Factories, rewinders and electrical contractors sell bare bright, No. 1, No. 2 and armature copper; refiners, wire-rod mills and alloy makers buy it. Each lot is graded against ISRI-style specifications, weighed on calibrated scales and invoiced under HSN 7404. Larger copper scrap suppliers can post recurring monthly lots, and the trade desk handles imported copper scrap for buyers who need container volumes.

Who sells copper scrap on Kabadi24

Electrical and maintenance departments, panel builders, motor rewinding shops, transformer repairers, HVAC contractors, power distribution projects and plant dismantling jobs. In Purvanchal, much of the copper we see comes from Ramnagar and Chandpur engineering units, cable contractors working on power projects, and transformer replacements at factories and institutions.

Who buys it

Copper refiners, wire-rod and wire-drawing mills, brass and alloy makers, and traders who aggregate for larger consumers or export. Through the marketplace, a seller in Varanasi can reach a buyer in Gujarat or Maharashtra who values that exact grade.

How to get the best price for copper scrap

  1. Separate by grade – keep bare bright apart from enamelled winding and from oxidised copper.
  2. Remove iron and brass – pull windings from motor bodies, take brass fittings off copper tube.
  3. Never burn cable – it lowers the grade, harms health and is often illegal. Sell on recovery instead.
  4. Keep it dry and secure – store copper in a locked, covered area.
  5. Weigh transparently – calibrated platform scale for small lots, government-certified weighbridge for truckloads.

How pricing works

Copper scrap is priced off LME and MCX copper and the rupee–dollar rate, minus a grade discount. Regular sellers can agree an MCX-linked formula per grade; one-time sellers get a written quote valid for a short window. See the scrap rates page for the latest indicative bands.

Documents and compliance

Metal scrap sales between businesses carry 18% GST, with reverse charge on supplies from unregistered persons and 2% GST TDS on qualifying B2B purchases from October 2024. Each Kabadi24 deal comes with a tax invoice, e-way bill where required and weighbridge slips.
