Metal Scrap Import & Export in India – HMS and Ferrous Scrap Imports, Non-Ferrous Scrap Exports

International scrap trading fills the gap between what Indian mills melt and what the domestic market generates. The Kabadi24 trade desk supplies imported ferrous and non-ferrous scrap to mills, foundries and smelters, and exports sorted Indian scrap where overseas buyers pay more, in full container loads with the paperwork handled.

What we import and export

Direction Typical material Typical buyer

For mills: HMS scrap import, step by step

  1. Specification and landed-cost check – grade, size, contamination limits and the landed price per tonne compared with domestic HMS.
  2. Supplier vetting – trade references, past shipment records and inspection reports. Most scrap import losses come from unvetted suppliers.
  3. Pre-shipment inspection – a PSIC from an agency recognised by DGFT (checked against the current list), plus radiation screening.
  4. Customs and port – IEC, bill of entry, duty and port clearance, usually through Kolkata/Haldia for eastern India or western ports for NCR.
  5. Inland delivery – rail or road to the plant, with receipt weights reconciled against the bill of lading.

For exporters: when export beats the domestic market

Export makes sense for well-sorted non-ferrous and alloy scrap where the overseas price, after freight, duties and finance costs, beats the best domestic offer. The desk checks the export policy for each HS code, grades the lot to the buyer's specification, and loads with photo, video and weighbridge records.

Payment and fraud protection

Cross-border scrap trade attracts fraud – fake suppliers, last-minute bank-detail changes and requests to ship before payment security. Kabadi24 verifies counterparties, recommends letters of credit or staged payments, and does not release documents before payment.

Frequently asked questions

Can Kabadi24 import HMS scrap for an Indian mill?

Yes. The trade desk sources HMS 1&2 and shredded scrap from vetted overseas suppliers, checks the PSIC agency against DGFT's current list, handles customs and port clearance, and delivers to the plant with weight reconciliation.

What documents are needed to import metal scrap into India?

An Importer-Exporter Code (IEC), a pre-shipment inspection certificate from a DGFT-recognised agency, the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and customs filings. Hazardous waste rules also apply to some materials.

Which Indian scrap is worth exporting?

Mostly well-sorted non-ferrous and alloy scrap such as brass, copper and stainless, when overseas prices beat domestic offers after all costs. Export policy must be checked for each HS code.

Do you supply imported scrap in less than a container load?

Imports are usually priced per container. Smaller buyers can take part-lots from containers the desk has already cleared, subject to availability.
