The rules in brief
E-waste is governed by the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 (in force from April 2023), and batteries by the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022. Bulk consumers must hand over waste only to registered producers, refurbishers or recyclers and keep records. Batteries must be kept separate from other e-waste.
Data security
Every data-bearing device is listed by serial number. Drives are wiped with certified software for reuse or physically destroyed for recycling, and you receive a data destruction certificate.
